Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that Aminuddin Harun will remain as Negeri Sembilan menteri besar, following state ruler Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir’s decree.
The political upheaval in Negeri Sembilan escalated after all 14 Umno assemblypersons withdrew their support for Aminuddin, citing a loss of confidence in his leadership amid an ongoing royal dispute.
Anwar said he also had an audience with Tuanku Muhriz yesterday, where he expressed his gratitude for the ruler’s consideration, particularly on the decree that the menteri besar stay on for the sake of the state’s interests and the well-being of the people.
“At this point, based on His Highness’ decree… the state government should continue to function as usual until there is a need for any changes.
“For now, I have asked the menteri besar to carry on as usual. The legal process does not hinder this, and we will not obstruct it. It should proceed properly, without affecting the institution of the ruler or the undang, which we must uphold,” the prime minister was quoted as saying by Bernama.

In a statement later, Anwar stressed that matters involving the chieftain institution are being addressed through legitimate channels, proper processes, and the wisdom of the undangs themselves.
The federal government will continue to extend its full cooperation to ensure the continuity of economic progress and the people’s well-being, he said.
“Under all circumstances, the sanctity of the royal institution and the laws of the state must continue to be preserved and defended.
"I also call upon the people, particularly in Negeri Sembilan, to remain prudent, courteous, and orderly, especially when discussing matters concerning the royal institution and the laws of the state," he added.
Yesterday, Aminuddin said he will continue leading the state under a "minority government", as per Tuanku Muhriz's instructions.

He highlighted that since there is still a lack of "clarity" on the move to declare a loss of confidence, the state administration will continue its duties despite four of its state executive council members withdrawing their support.
The Negeri Sembilan 36-seat legislature consists of 17 assemblypersons from Pakatan Harapan, 14 from BN, and five representatives from Perikatan Nasional.
"As we have seen before, a minority government is still able to perform its roles," Aminuddin added.
He also appealed to the rakyat's support for the state administration to continue executing its duties, lamenting that Umno's move has come at a time when unity is of utmost importance.
Political negotiations, the way forward
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, meanwhile, said that the political crisis affecting Negeri Sembilan will be resolved through political negotiations without interfering in the state administration or the existing customary legal system.
Astro Awani reported him saying that he will meet Anwar today to discuss further details on the direction towards a resolution.
“I will resolve the existing crisis through politics, and we will never interfere in the administration of the state government or in Negeri Sembilan’s customary laws,” the deputy prime minister added. - Mkini
