N Sembilan Umno seeks audience with Tuanku Muhriz

Negeri Sembilan BN, led by Umno, has requested an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir regarding the latest developments following their withdrawal of support for Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun.

Its chairperson, Jalaluddin Alias, said they are prepared to become the opposition if Pakatan Harapan continues to lead the state.

He also said the move was not aimed at seizing the menteri besar post, but at defending Negeri Sembilan’s traditional institutions.

“We have submitted an application to seek an audience with His Royal Highness to inform him of our withdrawal of support for the menteri besar.

“I have not yet been granted an audience, and I am ready at any time to appear before His Royal Highness,” he said at a press conference at the Umno headquarters in Seremban today.

Yesterday, 14 Umno assemblypersons in Negeri Sembilan withdrew their support for Aminuddin after losing confidence in his leadership.

Jalaluddin said an official letter on the matter would be sent to the state assembly speaker and the state secretary.

“We also wish to stress that we fully support and defend the customs institution, as well as the constitution and laws of the Negeri Sembilan state government.

“And we want a stable government so it can play its role effectively in state administration while focusing on the well-being of the people and the state’s economy,” he said.

According to a live broadcast of the press conference, 12 other state Umno leaders were also present.

Following yesterday’s announcement, five Perikatan Nasional assemblypersons in Negeri Sembilan expressed their readiness to cooperate with Umno and BN to form the state government.

‘It wasn’t planned’

Commenting further, Jalaluddin dismissed the perception that purported efforts to topple the government had been planned earlier with PN.

He also rejected claims that their actions were an attempt to form a “backdoor government”.

“A backdoor government means going from being the opposition to becoming the government. We are already the government, so there is no reason for us to do that.

“This is to defend the party’s principles,” he added.

Exco to vacate offices

Jalaluddin said all BN executive council members had been instructed to vacate their offices today.

The BN assemblyperson holding the deputy state assembly speaker post will also submit his resignation letter.

“I have asked all exco members and the deputy speaker to return their official vehicles and vacate their offices, and to hand back all facilities provided,” he added.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that Aminuddin will remain as Negeri Sembilan menteri besar, following the state ruler’s decree yesterday, for the sake of the state’s interests and the people’s well-being. - Mkini
