SOMETIMES, EVEN the most benign news can be turned into vitriol to fan the flames of hate and racism. This speaks a lot about our fellow Malaysians even though it has been so many decades since independence.
Take it from netizen @ForAzhar00 who highlighted a recent post where a Muslim prayer hall is being demolished without any incident or drama.
He claimed there are about 687 more “illegal” temples in Selangor which have yet to be settled. One can only wonder what he meant by “settled.”
The post has since attracted many racist comments, suggesting quick or brutal action towards the temples which were purportedly illegal.
According to @MahazanAmie in the comment section, there is usually no problem when an illegal mosque is being demolished since islam did not teach its followers to steal and take other people’s property.

Another netizen lamented that work is very quick when it involves mosques but things are being delayed for the temples.

“There are so many temples but what are people doing?” said @ikhmlzz, claiming that he could find three temples within a distance of less than 200 metres.
Then there was @hmadmuslih suggesting that people remove those alcohol producing factories too.

The demolished prayer hall highlighted in the post by @ForAzhar00 also requires mention.
According to news portal Sinar Harian, Surau al-Karamah in Kampung Seri Keramat, Pasir Putih was demolished without any incident.
An inspection found that dozens of police officers were deployed in the area as early as 6.30am, with access to the prayer room closed from both directions.
An excavator was also present at the site to carry out the demolition works, while local residents were seen gathering to witness the process.
The demolition, scheduled for 9am, only began at around 10.55am following several discussions with relevant stakeholders.
The operation was carried out after obtaining approval through an order from the High Court in Ipoh, in accordance with legal provisions. — Focus Malaysia
