PH slams Negeri Sembilan BN over state govt ‘takeover’ attempt

PH communications director Fahmi Fadzil says the move by the 14 Umno assemblymen who withdrew support does not reflect the spirit of a unity government.

PH communications director Fahmi Fadzil said the 14 Umno assemblymen who withdrew support in Negeri Sembilan had no regard for public welfare.
PETALING JAYA:
Pakatan Harapan has slammed Negeri Sembilan Barisan Nasional and its 14 Umno assemblymen over what it described as an attempt to take over the state government, saying the move does not reflect the spirit of the unity government.

PH communications director Fahmi Fadzil said the coalition regretted the incident and strongly rejected such “acts of betrayal”.

“The reasons given by the 14 assemblymen (for withdrawing their support) were not related at all to the performance of the menteri besar (Aminuddin Harun),” he said in a statement.

“This action was taken without regard for the welfare of the people, at a time when the unity government and the country are facing global supply challenges and working to manage the economy and ease the people’s burden.”

Fahmi said PH remained confident that the Negeri Sembilan administration under Aminuddin would continue to function as usual.

He added that PH would continue to cooperate with the state leadership to ensure stability and safeguard the welfare of the people.

“PH will also continue to uphold the role and functions of the royal institution,” he said.

PH and BN had contested the 2023 Negeri Sembilan state election as coalition partners, with PH winning 17 seats and BN 14.

Negeri Sembilan Umno yesterday retracted its support for Aminuddin, citing a loss of confidence in his leadership over the ongoing crisis involving four chieftains seeking to remove the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, from his position.

Tuanku Muhriz has told Aminuddin to stay on as menteri besar until the issue of his majority support in the state assembly is “clarified”.

Negeri Sembilan BN, on the other hand, claimed that it now has a simple majority to form the state government after five Perikatan Nasional assemblymen expressed their support. - FMT
