Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng is pressing authorities for an update on two cases of alleged police brutality last year, which were supposed to have been referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action in December 2025.
“The investigations are complete, but what is the decision? The people want answers,” he wrote in a Facebook post today.
He tagged the police, AGC, and the Home Ministry in the post, which also shared a copy of the parliamentary written reply on the case involving a person known as Wan Muhammad Daniel, and a police shooting in Durian Tunggal, Malacca.
According to Lawyers for Liberty, last year, Daniel was arrested on Nov 15, and CCTV recordings caught police officers purportedly slapping him during the arrest.
Daniel and his lawyers alleged he was further abused while detained at the Bandar Kinrara police station in Puchong, Selangor - including having a flame held near his genitals and having his lower lip burned with a lit cigarette.

He was later released after police admitted they had arrested the wrong person, and reportedly obstructed attempts to lodge a police report on the alleged brutality.
Meanwhile, in the Durian Tunggal incident on Nov 24, police claimed they had no choice but to shoot dead three men, aged 24 to 29, after one of them attacked an officer with a machete.
Their family disputed the police’s narrative by presenting a recording of a phone call that purportedly took place during the incident, claiming it showed that the deceased were cooperative and were not behaving in a threatening manner as alleged.
Their lawyer, Rajesh Nagarajan, claimed that an autopsy also found that one of the victims was shot “execution-style”, with the bullet penetrating him top-to-bottom from the nose to the heart.
‘Under investigation’
In a written reply dated Feb 26, the Home Ministry informed the Dewan Rakyat that Daniel’s case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
The case was referred to the AGC for further instructions on Dec 24 last year, it said in response to a question from Lim.

As for the Durian Tunggal shooting, it said the investigation papers have been referred to the AGC on Dec 16 and Dec 29.
“The case is still classified as being under further investigation.
“The ministry assures that both cases are being monitored closely and firm action will be taken without compromise if it is proven there is misconduct or SOP violation by any enforcement officer,” it said. - Mkini
