PETALING JAYA: Eighteen areas recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 8am on Friday (Aug 28), according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
In Sarawak, four areas breached the unhealthy threshold, with Sri Aman recording the highest reading in the state and nationwide at 192, followed by IPD Serian (170), Sarikei (153) and Miri (108).
Outside Sarawak, 14 areas also recorded unhealthy readings. Cheras in WP Kuala Lumpur recorded 159, followed by Seberang Perai in Pulau Pinang (157), Minden in Pulau Pinang (155), Taiping in Perak (155) and Johan Setia in Selangor (155).
Shah Alam in Selangor (153), Sungai Petani in Kedah (152), Seberang Jaya in Pulau Pinang (152), Batu Muda in WP Kuala Lumpur (152) and Putrajaya (152) also recorded unhealthy readings, along with Petaling Jaya in Selangor (140), Tasek Ipoh in Perak (135), Seri Manjung in Perak (118) and Seremban in Negeri Sembilan (107).
Meanwhile, 48 areas around the country recorded API readings at the moderate level, while one area recorded a good reading. Jerantut in Pahang recorded 37, the only station to record good air quality.
API readings of between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are categorised as hazardous.
API data is released hourly based on readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide. - Mkini
