KOTA BHARU - Kelantan Menteri Besar Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has thanked the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for clearing his name in the allegation surrounding a RM65,000 sponsorship from a private company to perform the hajj pilgrimage last year.
The PAS Murshidul Am was also cleared by MACC from any wrong doings in the allegation of power abuse in his appointment of his son-in-law Abdul Ariffahmi Ab Rahman as the chief of state-owned PMBK.
“The Attorney-General finds that no charges can be made, as Nik Aziz has never requested to be sponsored for the Hajj trip, and did not complete the pilgrimage to Makkah last year.
“The A-G also finds Abdul Ariffahmi’s appointment as CEO is more towards a change of job title, and the MB has full power to appoint (officers),” MACC’s Operations Evaluation Panel chairman (PPO) Dr Hadenan Abdul Jalil was quoted as saying yesterday.
Meanwhile, PAS vice president Salahuddin Ayub, who had been urging the Commission to investigate former Malaysia Airlines chairman Tajuddin Ramli, welcomed a report which said MACC found a new lead for the case.
“I have just been informed by MACC who informed that they have found a new lead in the case. What I am fighting for after being appointed in the commission is finally showing positive result although there are some who said I’m wasting my time,” said a jubilant Salahuddin.
The Commission had however said it could not reveal details about the find.
“There are new witnesses, but with all corruption cases, it can only stay investigated if witnesses come forward,” he said.
