9 vehicles GONE IN 15 MINUTES at fire-sale Perlis auction
KANGAR - Nine vehicles were snapped up in less than 15 minutes in a recent public auction organised by the Kuala Perlis Anti-Smuggling Unit (UPP), here.
The auction saw three vans, a four-wheel-drive vehicle and five motorcycles which were used as the agency's official vehicles sold between RM650 and RM3,050 each.
UPP commandant, Inspector Azizan Saman, said the agency raised RM11,210 in the auction and the money would be returned to the Federal government.
"This was the first time the state UPP auctioned our used vehicles. The vehicles were thoroughly inspected to ensure their road-worthiness before being approved for the auction," he said.
"We put up a notice about the auction about a month ago and the event drew 30 bidders from all over the state."

Azizan said the Mitsubishi Pajero four-wheel-drive received the highest bid of RM3,050, while all five MZ 125SM motorcycles went for between RM650 and RM1,000 each.
Three Perodua Rusa vans were snapped at a mere RM2,000 each.
Shahidun Kasa, who won the bid for the Pajero, said he was happy that his dream of owning a four-wheel-drive vehicle finally came true at a fraction of the market price.
"So far, the cheapest second-hand four-wheel-drive vehicle I found in the market was in the range of RM10,000. I could not believe my eyes when I saw that bidding for the Mitsubishi Pajero started at RM3,000," said the odd-job worker.
"I told myself that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity so I was prepared to bid up to RM4,000. I was extremely happy to have managed to get the car for just RM3,050."
Shahidun urged UPP and other government agencies to hold similar auctions in future as this gave the opportunity for those from low-income groups to own a vehicle at a real bargain.  - NST
