They were reacting to Kok's Chinese New Year video titled'Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014' and last month's flashmob by Machang Bubuk's Lee, where kangkung was stuffed into the mouth of a cardboard effigy of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in protest against recent price hikes.
One of the rally organisers, Zulkifly Sharif from Pertubuhan Permuafakatan Majlis Ayahanda Malaysia (Permas) accused the politicians whose faces adorned the banner, of manipulating the price hike issue.
"The increase in prices of goods has been turned into a kind of propaganda to bring down Malay leadership. They are trying to provoke hatred and belittle Malay leadership.
"We are appalled that the Chinese and Christian extremists who play with the image of Malay leaders, stuffing his mouth with kangkung, whereby these leaders were democratically elected by the people of Malaysia," he said.
Expel Chinese, Indians not fluent in Malay

"We hope that, while the operation to flush out illegal immigrants is on-going, that the Home Ministry will also screen Malaysians, especially the Chinese and Indians who are not fluent in Malay or no longer show loyalty to the king and country to be banished, "said Zulkifly.
Before the blood smearing ritual, some participants also stepped on the banner. At the end of the rally, organisers passed out more than two baskets full of kangkung to those who attended.

and blood smearing ritual was a hark back to the "bloody" May 13, 1969 racial riots.
"It is symbolic of the bloody incident, this means we are sending a serious warning to Teresa Kok not to provoke and create something that threatens the peace and feelings of the Malays.
"The blood represents the May 13 incident... It should be easily understood," he said.
