Penang police have checked 133 printing premises in the state in their probe into the putting up of banners outside churches and hurling of molotov cocktails into a church compound in George Town last week, chief police officer Abdul Rahim Hanafi said today.
He said the police had received 36 reports and recorded 23 statements in connection with the investigation.
“I hope all quarters will remain calm and exercise patience. Let the police resolve this matter,” he told reporters in Nibong Tebal when asked to comment on the developments in the police investigation into the hurling of two molotov cocktails into the compound of a church in Lebuh Farquhar in George Town on Jan 27.
The molotov cocktail incident occurred after banners of a provocative nature were found hung outside the compound of churches in Lebuh Farquhar, Sungai Pinang, Pulau Tikus and Gelugor, all in George Town.
Abdul Rahim said police had not made any arrests so far pertaining to the hurling of the molotov cocktails into the church compound.
“There is no CCTV camera in the compound of the church. The police are conducting the probe by looking at the recording of CCTV cameras around the area.
“We are having a little difficulty identifying the suspects because they were wearing crash helmets,” he said.
Earlier, Abdul Rahim accompanied internal security and public order director Salleh Md Rashid to monitor the ‘Op Selamat’ traffic safety operation in Sungai Bakap.
