Don’t let Jakim divide us

YOURSAY ‘Our East Malaysian brothers and sisters must demand that this persecution stops.’

Prove Christians tricking Muslims, Jakim told

David Dass: Many of the people in Jakim (Department of Islamic Development) do not have any meaningful experience or relationship with people of other faiths.

Many attended single race schools and did their religious studies in countries that have no experience of diversity. In other words, their ideas and their interpretation of scripture have little relevance to us.

In fact, they could be dangerous to the peaceful relationships we have enjoyed for hundreds of years. These people will be threatened by friendships between people of different faiths and different religions.

See how much we have lost. There was a time when children of all races would be in and out of each other’s homes.

An open house was just that. You came into my house and I came to yours. There was no difficulty from eating out of plates from my house and drinking from glasses from my house.

Malays would attend funeral services in Christian churches. Friendships would be deep, transcending race and religion. Respect was always there. Do not let Jakim divide us.

Apa Nama: Penampang MP Darell Leiking, what you mentioned is good but I am sorry to say they will not solved this because Umno Baru need an issue to keep on harping in order to keep the ‘divide and rule’ model alive.

As you mentioned, "being used as the bait for a political agenda" - this they will keep on doing. All it boils down to is clinging on to power.

And now their power is being threatened. There is long way for us to go to stop this. Meanwhile, we can teach them a lesson in the Kajang by-election and also the upcoming Sarawak elections.

Make sure BN lose in Sarawak, then all this could stop. We have to show that we will not compromise. Issuing statements after statements, these people will not listen. Kick them out by means of elections.

That is the only way. Until then please be patient and launch campaigns in Sarawak to garner support.

Nil: If you accuse the Christians of wrongdoing, then you need to give them the chance to defend themselves. Otherwise, your accusation is seditious, which give Islam and Muslims in the country a bad name.

Not Confused: Jakim is just confirming the sorry state of Islam in Malaysia. They lie and make accusations without any evidence or support of common sense.

They are intolerant of other religions and will do all they can to drive a wedge between Islam and everyone else. Jakim is populated by pseudo-Muslims whose main aim in life is to promote and maintain Muslim hegemony throughout Malaysia.

They cannot provide the evidence being asked for as they know very well that there is none.

Jiminy Qrikert: This is why we must have very strong opposition to BN. This is also why we must have people's representatives willing to speak up and challenge the status quo if there is persecution of the rakyat.

Christian members of the BN government are keeping totally silent and dare not challenge their political masters even though they know the current persecution of Christians is wrong. They sell out their faith and they sell out their Christian brothers and sisters in order to keep their positions.

Our East Malaysian brothers and sisters need to wake up and demand that this persecution stops immediately and rally with the rest of Christian Malaysians in rejecting BN.

Kudos to Darell Leiking. Good on you.

Citizen0114: Jakim is an agency under the PM's Department. It is thus obliged to abide by PM's orders or cabinet's decision.

The premier has already issued warnings to all parties to stop making any comments on the Allah issue to prevent animosity between the Muslims and Christians. I believe he made this order ahead of the Federal Court's decision, which is expected to be announced on March 5.

So how could Jakim approve a seditious sermon for Friday prayers. This is tantamount to Jakim defying PM's orders. Can this be allowed?

Kawak: We always read and thought Islam means peace. But the attitude and inclination of Jakim, Mais (Selangor Islamic Religious Council) and Jais (Selangor Islamic Religious Department) of antagonism other religions, surely cast doubts in the minds of non-Muslims.

Anonymous #58458950: I agree that sermons of this nature instilling doubts in Muslim minds is detrimental to racial and religious stability.

The fact is it is all in the imagination and the devil is at work to create havoc. Why fall prey to the evil one?

Mohican: Jakim consists of modern-day Pharisees whereby it is aptly stated in the Bible of Pharisees:

"You Pharisees are content with cleaning the outward part of cup and dish while all that is within is running with avarice and wickedness. Fools did not he who made the outward part make the inward too."

Jakim consists of a bunch of faithless and misguided zealots. For who else will teach their flock about enmity and discord, save the Osama- and Taliban-minded.

Anonymous #85701391: What? Asking Jakim to prove their claims? This MP must be joking.

If the Umno-BN government did not authorised or approved Jakim acts, do these Jakim characters have the guts to behave the way they have behaved?

The biggest problem we have is the Umno-BN government. Jakim is just their tool.- Malaysiakini
