IGP's inaction blamed for rising threats against Kok

The threats against Seputeh MP Teresa Kok over her controversial Chinese New Year video will only stop when the nation’s top cop starts acting fairly, said DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.

The veteran DAP politician today slammed Inspector-General (IGP) of Police Khalid Abu Bakar (left) for the swift action in completing investigations against Kok over her ‘Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014'video, while there appears to be no immediate action against the ‘Council of Islamic NGOs’ for the “chicken and slap" incident.

Police had submitted its investigation papers on the video to the Attorney-General's Chambers on Feb 14.

"Khalid has shown that he is utterly biased and unprofessional when he publicly indicted Kok’s video as part of a ‘campaign of hate’, when he said nothing to condemn those who falsely accuse the video of being anti-Malay, anti-Islam and anti-Rulers.

"It is because of the failure of the police to act promptly against those who want to cause racial and religious disharmony like the ‘chicken and slap’ demonstration that the irresponsible and reckless elements out to stoke the fires of racial and religious strife are encouraged to up the ante," Lim said in a statement.

On February 6, a group of some 30 people from various Malay NGOs slaughtered chickens and smeared the blood over a banner with the faces of DAP leaders, including Lim’s and Kok’s.

The group also offer an initial RM500 reward to the first person toslap Kok and record the incident. The bounty was later increased to RM1,200 and now reportedly stands at RM2,000.

Yesterday, unknown persons splashed red paint on the steps leading to Kok's office in Jalan Klang Lama, with a dead chicken thrown in. Police have linked the threat to her video.

On the video, Lim defended Kok over the 'satirical' video which has been view more than 600,000 times since it was uploaded on popular video sharing site YouTube late last month, saying it was harmless.

"For more than three weeks, not a single person had been able to step forward to point out where (the video) is anti-Malay, anti-Islam and anti-Rulers, although I said I would ask Kok to withdraw and apologise for the video if there is such evidence," he said.

He alleged that Khalid had even made a veiled threat to use the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) against Kok, when she attempted to diffuse the tension by adding Malay subtitles into the video.

"I would have thought Khalid would have welcomed the uploading of Malay sub-titles onto Teresa Kok’s video," Lim said.
