Teresa Kok has now included Malay subtitles in her satirical video “Onederful Malaysia”, which had infuriated certain quarters to the point of slaughtering chickens and smearing her photo with the blood.
In a statement today, the DAP MP said the subtitles were inserted to prove that the political satire does not belittle or insult any race or religion.
“Since I released the video in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations on Jan 31, it was well received by those who understood Mandarin and Cantonese, especially the young.
“But certain irresponsible quarters from Umno twisted the issue and accused me of insulting the Malays... These accusations are lies and probably stemmed from the fact that those who made the accusations cannot understand Mandarin or Cantonese. Since then, I have faced harassment and threats,” she added.
Among others, Kok was accused of saying “Death to the Malays” and “Malays are stupid” in the video, which also prompted a chicken carcass and red paint to be thrown into the Seputeh parliamentarian’s office.
The DAP leader said the video with the subtitles can be found onYouTube under the heading, “Teresa Kok Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014 Sarikata Bahasa Malaysia”
“I hope this effort will correct the wrong perception and expose the lies of the racists who made false accusations against me,” she added.
Kok explained that her video touched on current issues and did not disparage any leader, race or religion.
“It also did not poke fun at our security forces with regard to the Lahad Datu incident,” she added.
