Negri Sembilan declares WATER CRISIS as catchment areas dry up
KUALA LUMPUR — After experiencing a long dry spell resulting in water catchment areas drying up, Negri Sembilan has declared a state of crisis as the taps ran dry, affecting up to 8,000 households, The Star Online reported today. The affected areas were in Sendayan, Rasah, Mambau and Seremban.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan was reported as saying that the state’s Natural Disaster Operations room had been activated to coordinate efforts to supply treated water to affected consumers.
He also stated that no water could be pumped from Sg Batang Benar and Sg Ulu Muar which provides raw water to the Talang, Kelinchi and Sg Terip dams.
The Star Online reported that Sg Batang Benar supplied up to 13 million litres of raw water and Sg Ulu Muar another 45 million litres for consumers in Seremban alone. In the state, 200,000 households consume some 340 million litres of water daily.
