KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the ongoing water crisis did not warrant a state of emergency.
“There is still time before the water level reaches a critical state," he told a press conference after the UMNO supreme council meeting today.
The Cabinet he added, will discuss the next course of action next Wednesday.
He said the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry was closely monitoring the situation.
"We will further inform on the actual condition from time to time."
Najib added that the state of the water level at dams nationwide also depended on the weather in the next few days.
He also said cloud seeding exercises were being conducted; however, the process required rain clouds.
“We are prepared to perform the exercise, " he said.
Najib said Muslims nationwide were also playing their part by performing ‘sembahyang hajat’ at mosques around the country.
He also advised consumers to use water sparingly during this period. - NST
