SHAH ALAM - Umno Youth Kota Raja lodged a police report against PKR Alor Star Member of Parliament Gooi Hsiao Leung for alleged insulting the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharifuddin Idris Shah.
He was alleged to have suggested for the state constitution to be reviewed to reduce the powers of the monarchy.
Its chief Mohd Syafiq Hushim said Gooi had crossed the line when he also questioned the Sultan's decision in the appointment of the menteri besar, suggesting that His Royal Highness was ill-advised by his people on the appointment.
"Questioning the monarchy is an act of insult to the Sultan and is obviously done in a seditious manner to influence others to do the same. He is also going against the second tenet of the Rukun Negara, which is 'loyalty to king and country' and article 10 of the constitution that limits speech touching on sensitive issues such as the royalty," he said after lodging the police report at Shah Alam police station, earlier today.
Mohd Syafiq warned against further attempts to smear the image of the Sultan of Selangor, especially outsiders (outside Selangor).
Gooi had recently called for Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali to review the state constitution and amend it to limit the powers of the monarchy.
Gooi was recorded as saying that the Sultan of Selangor 'had been wrongfully advised by his legal team' when he made the decision to appoint Azmin as the menteri besar.
Umno vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein yesterday also hit out at Gooi for his remarks and said that he was an example of a politician with personal motive. -NST
