DAP ready to split with PAS over hudud

Gobind Singh Deo says DAP and PKR are ready to sever ties with PAS if they go against the coalition’s common policy framework on hudud.
gobind pas2PUCHONG: MP for Puchong, Gobind Singh Deo has warned coalition partner PAS that if push comes to shove, DAP and PKR are willing to sever ties with the Islamist party for insisting on implementing hudud in Kelantan.
In a statement, Gobind said, “If PAS pushes ahead and tables the bill on the 29th, I am of the view that Pakatan Rakyat would have no choice but to suspend all working relations with PAS.”
Gobind was referring to a Private Member’s Bill that PAS wants to table in Parliament, for which they will meet on December 29 to discuss in greater detail.
Saying that PAS was ignoring the objections put forth by DAP regarding this issue, Gobind reminded them that “no discussion nor agreement” was reached by PAS with either of its coalition partners.
He said, “It is very clear that the bill does not have the backing nor support of Pakatan Rakyat.”
He also referred to the coalition’s common policy framework which every partner was “duty bound to defend”, saying PAS was doing just the opposite by pushing for hudud.
“This is the agreement which formed the basis of our campaign and the strength upon which Pakatan Rakyat garnered support from the people and its victories in 2008 and 2013,” Gobind argued, adding that PR was losing the “trust” and “respect” of its supporters because of its actions.
Saying PAS was threatening the very “spirit of PR” with their plans, Gobind added, “We must inspire confidence and demonstrate our commitment to the common policy framework in Pakatan Rakyat.
“We must be firm and show that it is something which cannot and must not be taken lightly.”
Gobind also accused PAS of making use of the PR platform to make it to Putrajaya so they could establish an Islamic state and implement hudud.
He said the hudud bill they were pushing for in Kelantan showed “they were never committed to its (PR) common policy framework and that they will never be.”
