Umno's three vice-presidents must learn to bite their tongues and not be too quick to air their views or act on issues, said an academician today.
Based on this, Professor Jayum Jawan said the trio have not reached the desired standard as yet.
"The 'second line' (in Umno) must be built, the three vice-presidents have not reached the standard because they are too quick to dialogue and act.
"People with wisdom should be the last to comment on issues," he said referring to Ahmad Zahidi Hamidi, Hishammuddin Hussein and Shafie Apdal.
He added that at times, even before the day is over, the vice-presidents have already commented on an issue.
Moderates accept Najib
Sharing his thoughts on Najib, Jayum said there is still no credible replacement for the prime minister’s post.
"Nobody has managed to shine (so far). Najib is still acceptable.
"Perhaps the Malays reject him, but the non-Malays see him as the best available alternative," added the political cluster deputy chairperson of the National Council of Professors (NCP)
Jayum was responding to former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who recently said there are many who are qualified to replace Najib.
The professor said Najib's leadership is balanced among the races, and therefore the people could still accept him.
Moderate Malays, Chinese, Indians and those in Sabah and Sarawak can still accept Najib," he added. - Mkini
