MIC Youth: We were peacemakers, not instigators

Sivarraajh hits back at party secretary for calling Youth Wing members instigators when they were there as peacemakers instead.
MIC kecohPETALING JAYA: After being singled out as one of the instigators of the chaos that erupted outside MIC headquarters last week, MIC Youth Chief, C Sivarraajh shot back, claiming that members of the Youth Wing were there to dilute tensions, not cause trouble between the two factions in MIC.
In a brief media statement, Sivarraajh expressed his disappointment at MIC’s Secretary Prakash Rao for lodging a police report against the party’s Youth members Monday, saying the latter’s actions were not only “unfair,” but “irresponsible.”
Sivarraajh maintained that far from being an instigator, he had actually instructed some of the youth wing members to act as “security” in order to prevent any untoward clashes between the two groups.
“They were there to help ease the situation from exploding to dangerous levels. It is unfair and irresponsible to accuse the MIC youth members for causing the ruckus and contributing to the tense situation,” said Sivarraajh.
Reminding members that the next general election was only three years away, Sivarraajh also called for unity, especially among senior party members, who were currently embroiled in tense in-fighting that has resulted in two distinct factions forming within the party.
“As youth wing members, our only concern is that party elders would put aside their differences and sit and discuss how best to overcome this current crisis.
“We feel that the leaders have to come up with holistic solutions to satisfy both factions as well as keep the party intact.”
In last week’s incident, tensions ran high when chaos erupted among the 1,200 supporters gathered outside the MIC building who were split into supporters of Palanivel and those who were against his leadership.
Federal Reserve Unit officers who were on hand helped manage to keep the crowd in control.
