He claims that G25 only held their high-ranking civil service positions because they were Malays.
PETALING JAYA: Former Ambassador to the Netherlands Noor Fairda Ariffin was quoted as saying in an interview with the Star on December 14 that the rhetoric and polemics at the Umno General Assembly gave the impression that the party doesn’t care about the non-Malays, noted former Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin in his latest blog posting.
Noor Farida, who acts as Spokeswoman for the retired high-ranking civil servants Group of 25 Eminent Malays, continued Zainuddin, said in the interview “we have our priorities, position, and Bahasa Malaysia – all of which cannot be challenged – but we still want to be greedy and raise the temperature on the rights of others”.
This is a one-sided view by her, according to the blog posting.
“Is it true that we are increasing the temperature by questioning the rights of others?” asked Zainuddin. “Isn’t it true that the rights of Malays in the Federal Constitution are being questioned?”
Zainuddin claims in a rhetorical take that the Malays, for over 50 years since independence, have been rattled and insulted and their rights questioned, the “Social Contract” ignored, and it appears that the Malays must be grateful to the non-Malays and not vice versa.
Getting personal, he alleged that those among the Group were only there because of the preference given to Malays and not because they were more qualified than non-Malays to hold their positions.
After having had their fill, he continued, they suddenly see the unfairness being done to others. “They have forgotten themselves,” said Zainuddin.
The Group of 25 is about the secular Federal Constitution, creeping Islamisation, creeping desecularisation, and the worsening polarization in the country.
They have since called for civilized dialogue to pull the country back from the brink.
