Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today thanked Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Idris Jala, for his contributions and services in the Cabinet.
"Thank you for your contributions and services in the Cabinet, Idris," he said in his Twitter account. Dewan Negara president, Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang, said today Idris's second term as a senator would end on September 3, 2015.
Zahar said, according to the Federal Constitution, the maximum period a senator may serve was two terms, or six years.
Idris, who is the chief executive officer of the Performance Management and Delivery Unit, a unit under the Prime Minister's Department, was appointed a senator on September 1, 2009, and reappointed on September 3, 2012 for a second term. – Bernama
