DUMPING PKR? Wilfred Bumburing tipped to lead Parti Cinta Sabah
KOTA KINABALU - Tamparuli assemblyman Datuk Wilfred Bumburing, who won the state seat on a PKR ticket but had remained aloof from the national party, is set to emerge as the face for a Kadazandusun-based multiracial opposition party.
Delegates of  Parti Cinta Sabah, which was registered two years ago, have given the green light for Bumburing to lead at the party’s general meeting on Sunday.
If Bumburing accepts the position, he would take over as president of PCS currently held Dr Nicholas James Guntobon.
"I have heard of the decision of the PCS meeting. I have not made any decision yet. I will announce my decision when the time comes,’’ Bumburing said when contacted on Monday.
Bumburing, however, confirmed that he is a member of PCS. Dr Guntobon declined to give immediate comments on his party’s decision.
The move is part of local based parties' hope to cobble together a united opposition coalition under the United Sabah Alliance (USA) led by former state finance minister Datuk Mohd Noor Mansoor.
The alliance members comprised United Borneo Front (UBF), Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), State Reform Party Sabah (STAR Sabah) and Bumburing’s  reform movement Sabah Movement for Change (APS).

Tamparuli assemblyman Datuk Wilfred
Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, who heads STAR Sabah, was initially tipped to take over PCS but has indicated that he will stay with STAR Sabah even though he is unable to set up branches and recruit members in Sabah for the Sarawak based party.
The opposition coalition is hoping to provide a strong local political front as an alternative to both Barisan Nasional and the national opposition parties – DAP and PKR -  that made inroads in the state in the 2013 general election. - ANN
