Prepaid customers, who are Malaysians, will be given the goods and services tax (GST) rebate for one year, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission says today.
The rebate equivalent to the GST amount will be credited directly to their prepaid accounts, effective January 1, 2016 until December 31.
For example, a customer who tops up RM10 will initially get airtime of RM9.43 (minus 6% GST) but will be given a rebate of 57 sen in 24 hours.
The GST paid by customers will be collected and remitted to the Customs Department.
The move follows the Customs Department’s announcement that mobile prepaid cards will revert to pre-GST prices on November 1. – Bernama
