The Sarawak legislative state assembly has notified the Election Commission of its dissolution on April 11 to pave the way for the 11th state election.
Speaker Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar said he had sent a letter today to EC chairperson Mohd Hashim Abdullah (pix above).
He said he had received the instrument of dissolution of the assembly on April 11 signed by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Abdul Taib Mahmud on March 31.
Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem announced yesterday that the state assembly would be dissolved on April 11.
Mohd Asfia said the state election must be held within 60 days of the dissolution of the state assembly.
He also said that the 11th state election would see contest in 82 constituenties, 11 more than in the previous election, in 2011.
Mohd Asfia drew attention to the number 11 that figured in relation to the election, saying the assembly was being dissolved on April 11 for the 11th state election and there were 11 additional seats.
"... the numbers coincide with 111111," he said.
