An Umno Youth grassroots member has declared that he will contest the June 18 Kuala Kangsar by-election as an Independent candidate.
In a Facebook post, Syed Rosli Syed Harman Jamalullail said both the candidates from BN and PAS are not natives of Kuala Kangsar.
"They (the candidates) will surely fail to understand the needs and wants of the people of Kuala Kangsar.
"As an Umno member I am very disappointed with the party's leadership, which failed to field a more capable candidate than Mastura (Mohd Yazid)," Syed Rosli said in reference to widow of the late Kuala Kangsar MP Wan Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad.
He also said he is not afraid of being sacked from Umno for contesting against the party’s candidate.
'Time to prove we are not just followers'
"It is time to prove to the party's leadership that we ordinary members are not just mere followers," he stressed.
With this intention of Syed Rosli to contest, the battle for Kuala Kangsar now looks set to be a four-cornered fight.
Mastura will face off with PAS Perak Muslimat chief Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad.
The PAS candidate from Pasir Kubu, Pulau Tiga Kiri, Pasir Salak, holds a degree in medicine and surgery and served as a medical officer at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Pakatan Harapan is expected to announce its candidate by Thursday.
The Kuala Kangsar parliamentary by-election comes after the death of Wan Mohammad Khair-il in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak, on May 5.- Mkini
