Saiful: Don't soil Bersatu by fighting for Anwar

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Muhyiddin Yassin should not soil his new party by fighting for jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's freedom, Anwar's former aide Saiful Bukhari Azlan said.
"Let him (Anwar) serve his sentence. He'll be released eventually, and may even get out early if he shows good behaviour.
"My advice is not to soil Bersatu, which is as pure as a newborn, with such filth, let alone ask for 'support' from a creature that you (Muhyiddin) yourself know the truth of, and has been convicted by the courts," Saiful is quoted as saying by Sinar Harian today.
Saiful reportedly said this in a Facebook posting, in response to Muhyiddin purportedly expressing sympathy for Anwar's predicament.
Anwar is currently serving five years behind bars after being convicted of sodomising Saiful, a charge that the PKR de facto leader insists is politically motivated.
Muhyiddin was reported to have said on Tuesday that Anwar's fate could only be determined once there is a change in government leadership.
He purportedly said this in response to requests that he helps in the campaign for the release of Anwar.
"(We need to) free the people through the electoral system. So if there is a change in leadership from among us, together we will be able to think about Anwar's fate," Muhyiddin is quoted as saying.

"If we agree that that is an important pre-requisite, it would not be difficult for us to form a new government, together in the future."
Saiful said it is not too late for Muhyiddin to steer Bersatu away from this crusade for Anwar, and that the people want to know the party's direction, policies and ideals, not whether or not it wants to free a convict.
Muhyiddin, he added, should not be concerned about getting support if he's confident that his new movement is in the right.- Mkini
