Voters don't care so much about 1MDB now, claims Keng Liang

Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang claims that voters do not seem as concerned about the 1MDB controversy anymore, with speculation being rife that the next general election will be held in March next year.
This, he said, was because he has been receiving less and less complaints about the 1MDB issue than before.
"The issue has subsided. Last year, I had a lot of queries about it, but it has subsided a lot now. You can see this in the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections.
"This year, I didn't receive much on that particular issue. They didn't go into the details with me.
"The opposition keeps talking about it in the newspapers, but the reality is, people are looking at the government's performance instead," Tan told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
He said there were also not many questions about the 1MDB scandal during his visits at the grassroots levels as the people were instead interested in bread-and-butter issues.
"Let me give you an example of an area that I constantly visit, where a lot of things are needed. The place needs a university, this is the matter they raised with me.
"I tell them it's good to have a university and that we will look into it. People are constructive in giving their views and they don't go for politics," Tan said.

He said the reason why the 1MDB issue has subsided was likely because it has already been explained.
He said the declaration by DAP's Kepong MP Tan Seng Giaw, who is also parliamentary Public Accounts Committee deputy chairperson, that Najib wasn't involved in 1MDB had also helped.
"The news that helped explain the issue is from Seng Giaw... they said it, not us," Tan added. -Mkini
