KUALA LUMPUR: Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad must retract his statement over the recent scuffle at Parliament or be sued, says Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos (pic).
The Red Shirts leader claimed that he had nothing to do with the incident which happened on Parliament grounds on Nov 24.
“I give him 24 hours to respond on the matter in the media and I will instruct my lawyer to demand a public apology in a manner of my choosing in the future.
“If he fails to do so, I will take legal action and file a lawsuit,” he said in a statement on Monday.
Jamal, who is also Sungai Besar Umno division chief, said that Khalid must retract his statement which had derogatorily labelled him “Jamal Jamban”, “Jamal Pak Tongko” and “Jamal Samseng”.
“He must also retract his allegation that I had a role to play in the incident,” Jamal said.
On Thursday, police identified those involved in the ruckus, including Firdaus Tajuddin, the son of Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.
It was reported that Khalid, who is Parti Amanah Negara’s communication chief, had been swarmed by a group of 20 men and women from the Pasir Salak Umno Youth division as soon as he got out of his car near the entrance of Parliament.
A scuffle then ensued, with one of the individuals trying to land a punch on the Opposition MP, who was shielded by security personnel and escorted into Parliament.
The incident is believed to have been over Khalid calling the deputy minister “menteri sial (damned minister) ” in the Dewan Rakyat last Monday.
