Kapar MP claims Umno lawmaker wanted to punch him

KUALA LUMPUR: Kapar lawmaker G Manivannan has alleged that Umno Member of Parliament for Kota Tinggi, Noor Ehsanuddin Harun Narrashid attempted to punch him.

“He walked up to me and wanted to punch me but was stopped by the sergeant at arms. Sim Tze Tzin and a few others recorded it,” Manivannan claimed, alluding to the Bayan Baru representative from PKR.

Manivannan also accused Noor Ehsanuddin of being rude for calling him stupid when he (Manivannan) attempted to interrupt another Umno lawmaker during the Budget 2017 debate.

He also lamented that despite being called stupid, the Speaker did not take action against the Umno MP.

“It is getting out of hand because the Speaker only advises us in the opposition and not the backbenchers.”

Apart from the sergeant at arms, Deputy Speaker Ismail Mohamed Syed also tried to diffuse the tense situation.

Ismail was heard saying: “Sit down YB Kota Tinggi and Kapar. I was told there are pictures taken.

“Return the pictures to Bentera (sergeant at arms). Whoever took the pictures in the Dewan, return it.”

He also ordered that a video of the scuffle be deleted as no pictures and videos were allowed in the august House.

Ismail then cautioned lawmakers to behave accordingly.

Later, Noor Ehsanuddin texted reporters that he had intended to strike Manivannan after the latter had challenged him to a fight.

“He told me last night, if I was a jantan (man enough), see him outside. Today I went up to ask him (about the challenge).”
