In his first stopover at a series of Kenduri Rakyat 1Wilayah Persekutuan today, Federal Territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor urged voters in Cheras to return the parliamentary seat to Barisan Nasional.
Speaking to some 3,000 guests at the Pudu Ulu People's Housing Project (PPR), Tengku Adnan said the voters must be prepared to "surprise" DAP's Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai in the next 14th general election.
"I am pleading to all of you, surprise them (DAP) in GE14.
"Tell Tan Kok Wai, we don't need you anymore. We don't need the rocket anymore," said Tengku Adnan in his opening speech.
Also present at the day-long event were Deputy Federal Territories minister Loga Bala Mohan, Cheras Umno chief Syed Ali Al-Habshee, Kuala Lumpur mayor Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz and other Cheras Barisan Nasional component party leaders.
Tengku Adnan went on to remind the constituents of the various initiatives introduced by his ministry, including free school buses for PPR children and a re-introduction of the Wilayah Ceria discount card.
"Is the Tan Kok Wai government better than us? (BN).
"I am pleading... Don't be swayed by people who are greedy," said the Putrajaya MP who claimed that after five terms under DAP and Tan, Cheras had remained underdeveloped.
Among others, Tengku Adnan said he gave instructions to Kuala Lumpur City Hall to address issues of traffic congestion, particularly at Bulatan Cheras and connecting areas.
At the same time, Tengku Adnan also took a swipe at MCA Cheras division chief Patrick Sim, for supposedly failing to put up a fight against Tan in the DAP stronghold.
"Even before contesting you have conceded defeat?
"In politics you must have passion. If you don't have passion, might as well you leave MCA and let someone else take over in Cheras," he stressed.
In rallying support for BN, Tengku Adnan also cautioned the voters against a "new Malay party" which he claimed was set up by a group of leaders who were disappointed in Umno, alluding to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
Tengku Adnan earlier said the Kenduri 1Wilayah Persekutuan programme held in conjunction with the Federal Territories Day celebrations was initiated to foster unity among PPR dwellers in the constituencies.
At his second stop in Bandar Tun Razak, Tengku Adnan told some 2,000 residents of the Seri Penara flat that BN wanted to send a message to the incumbent, Independent MP Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
"We want to send a message, we want to take back Bandar Tun Razak. Can we do it?," said Tengku Adnan to a resounding "Yes!" from the audience.
Tengku Adnan also noted that Bandar Tun Razak had been an Opposition stronghold for the past two general elections.
"That is why I am here today to try and redeem what you all (voters) have done to BN," he said, once again pledging to resolve issues affecting constituents in the area.
Among others, he cited measures to address their parking woes and flash floods, as well as noting a request to build a new Sekolah Agama Rakyat.
Present were Umno Bandar Tun Razak chief Rizalman Mokhtar and other local division leaders.
Abdul Khalid, who was sacked from PKR in September 2014, first won the Bandar Tun Razak seat against MCA's Tan Chai Ho under a PKR ticket in 2008 and retained his seat during GE13 in 2013.- Mkini
