The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has sacked 20 staff members in a restructuring exercise after Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim took over the organisation's leadership.
In a Facebook post, FAM secretary-general Hamidin Mohd Amin said the restructuring exercise was endorsed by Tunku Ismail and the exco members.
"The objective is to manage and control the association's finances.
"Twenty administration and technical staff will be terminated of their services in the FAM to ensure the organisation meets its direction," he said.
Hamidin added that those sacked would be given due compensation.
"They have already been informed today with notice and three months salary will be paid fully before April 15."
Hamidin had also announced that the national football team will revert its name from "Harimau Malaysia" to "Harimau Malaya"."It is also in line with the request of many fans to reuse the name based on various historic moments created by the national team during its glory days," he said.
Tunku Ismail officially took over the reins of FAM on March 25.
He won the position uncontested after rival Umno information chief Annuar Musa dropped out.
Immediately after his appointment, Tunku Ismail announced the replacement of the national team's coach Ong Kim Swee.
Ong was replaced with Johor Darul Takzim's former coach Mario Gomez while Ong was put in charge of the Under 21 team. -Mkini
