Guan Eng denies targeting disabled in wheelchair offer to Liow

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has denied that he was targeting disabled people in his offer to sponsor a wheelchair or crutches to MCA president Liow Tiong Lai.
“We are only targeting Liow, not other people. I have no intention to target disabled people,” he said in a press conference at the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
Lim also cited a China Press report which quoted Penang MCA of wanting to send a wheelchair to him.
“I just want Liow to answer, when can the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) finish its last mile,” added Lim.
The Penang chief minister, during a DAP dinner on Saturday night, said the many announcements for the Chinese community in Budget 2018 would come to nothing as MCA lacked follow-up in seeing them through the last mile, particularly on the recognition of the UEC.
As such, Lim was quoted by Sin Chew Daily as saying that had he met Liow in the corridor of Parliament after the budget sitting on Friday, he would have offered to sponsor him a wheelchair or crutches to help him through the last mile.
MCA leaders have since condemned Lim for making the remarks.
MCA publicity bureau chairperson Chai Kim Sen described Lim's offer as “uncouth behaviour”, while MCA Youth secretary-general Leong Kim Soon claimed Lim had indirectly insulted people with disabilities with his comment.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in his budget speech, announced an RM50 million allocation for Chinese primary schools, RM50 million for Kojadi loans, RM65 million for the development of Chinese new villages and RM10 million to repairs of houses.
Prior to the budget, Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid also announced that 10 new Chinese primary schools would be built.- Mkini
