Prime Minister Najib Razak says the Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT project was completed on schedule, within budget and without any problems or controversy.
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Najib Razak says the model of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Sungai Buloh-Kajang tender bidding, will be adopted for the country’s future iconic projects.
The prime minister said major projects should be assessed professionally in terms of costs and technical application of the model used.
“The MRT was successfully completed on schedule and within budget without any problems and controversy,” he said when opening the new Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters complex, which is also the world’s largest anti-corruption agency complex, here today.
Describing the method used for the MRT tender bidding, Najib said the tender committee which he chaired, were completely unaware of the name of the company bidding for the tender, as they were only given codes such as PT1, PT2 or PT3.
Najib said the identity of the company that won the tender was only revealed in a letter sent by its chief executive to him after the decision was made.
The prime minister stressed that major government projects should be of high quality and free of corruption.
“We must make sure that when we award a contract, it is free from corruption-related problems because if it is of low technical quality, various problems will arise and the project will fail,” he added. -FMT
