Higher education director-general Siti Hamisah Tapsir says 177,000 foreign students were accepted at 10 international campuses as of December.
TAWAU: Foreign students continue to see Malaysia as a preferred destination due to the quality of education offered in the country, says higher education director-general Siti Hamisah Tapsir.
Siti Hamisah said as of December last year, a total of 177,000 foreign students had been accepted to pursue their studies at 10 international campuses in Malaysia.
“The students were interested to study in the country, among others, because we have the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) which assures that study programmes offered are internationally recognised,” she said at an event yesterday.
According to her, China and Indonesia are among the countries with the highest number of students in Malaysia.
“Among the efforts carried out to fulfil the aspiration is the set-up of the Education Malaysian Global Services which helps foreign students apply for education visas and expedites its processing,” she said, adding that the ministry aimed to have an intake of 200,000 foreign students by 2020. -FMT
