Immigration says no records of Musa, Jamal leaving country

Action would be taken against them if they are found to have left Malaysia illegally as both are on a travel blacklist, says Immigration director-general.

PUTRAJAYA: There are no records of former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman and Sungai Besar Umno head Jamal Md Yunos having left the country, Immigration director-general Mustafar Ali said today.

He said both men were on a travel blacklist and would be considered to have committed an offence if they had left Malaysia and were found overseas.

“We do not know their whereabouts. Some people say they saw someone resembling Musa overseas,” he said. “How could Immigration know? We do not have records of them leaving the country,” he said.

“If they left without a record, then it is an offence and action will be taken against them,” he said. News reports had claimed a person resembling Musa had been seen in London while Jamal was said to be in Indonesia.

Mustafar said both men would have committed an offence if they had left the country through illegal channels. Action could be taken against them under the Passport Act and the Immigration Act.

They could face fines of up to RM10,000 or imprisonment of up to five years upon conviction.

Yesterday, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said Malaysian police were seeking the cooperation of Indonesian authorities to track down Jamal, who had appeared in a video recording, with a palm oil plantation in the background.

Jamal had asked Muhyiddin to guarantee his safety, claiming that his life was in danger.

Jamal had failed to turn up at the Ampang district police headquarters on Monday, despite giving his word that he would cooperate with the police in several cases, including a charge of displaying firearms in public.

Meanwhile, a Facebook user claimed that he had seen someone resembling Musa at St Pancras railway station in London.

Musa is sought by the police to help in investigations connected to a police report made by Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri Juhar Mahiruddin over an alleged criminal intimidation report. Sabah police have said they would wait for him to return to Sabah as he was only required to make a statement in answer to the report. -FMT
