KOTA KINABALU: The Election Court has struck out an election petition by Warisan challenging former foreign minister Anifah Aman as the Kimanis MP, dealing a final blow to all eight election petitions by the ruling party.
Kuching-based High Court Judge Supang Lian struck out the petition and ordered Warisan’s Karim Bujang to pay RM30,000 in cost to Anifah, as well as a sum of RM5,000 to be paid and divided between the returning officer and the Election Commission.
The decision means Warisan has lost all its eight election petitions, including for the parliamentary seats of Sipitang, Libaran and Keningau, and the state seats of Sungai Sibuga, Sook, Kiulu and Kundasang.
The court accepted the objection filed by Anifah, which said the petition did not comply with election petition rules and other technical requirements.
The court said Karim also failed to prove allegations of corruption.

Anifah won the Kimanis seat with a slim 156 majority, obtaining 11,942 against Karim’s 11,786 votes. -FMT
