KUALA LUMPUR: The government said it would not stop Umno and PAS from holding a joint rally to protest plans to ratify the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, or ICERD.
Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the opposition was free to hold the gathering, but said they should avoid racially provocative statements.
“We are always open. This is a democratic country they can voice their concerns,” said Muhyiddin.
Top leaders from PAS and Umno said they would hold a joint rally on Dec 8 to protest plans in ratifying ICERD, throwing their weight behind Malay and Muslim groups who oppose the international convention. -FMT
