Ex-model crowned as ‘Malaysia’s most eligible bachelor’ died fighting for IS

PETALING JAYA: A male model of Malaysian and Australian parentage who was once crowned “Malaysia’s Most Eligible Bachelor” was killed in Syria two years ago when he was fighting alongside the Islamic State (IS) militant group, an Australian daily reports.

Herald Sun said Amir Millson was killed in 2016 after stepping on a landmine in Syria, while he was carrying a fellow IS fighter on his shoulder.

Millson’s mother is a Malaysian. He studied mass communications at Curtin University in Perth before returning to Malaysia, where he was crowned Cleo magazine Malaysia’s Most Eligible Bachelor in 2010.

At 27, he became a part-time model and dreamt of becoming a television host.In an interview with Cleo, he said he wanted to be prime minister.

Millson later married and had a son, but divorced.

In 2014, he began to subscribe to radical views, in what a friend said was a “gradual process” of him turning into an IS supporter.

The following year, Millson, posted an image of himself as an armed fighter in Syria.

“We heard when he died. He was carrying a fighter on his shoulder when he stepped on a landmine. That was it,” his friend told the Herald Sun.

The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation had in September confirmed Millson was killed while fighting for the terror group. - FMT
