Agong undergoing follow-up treatment, will return to Istana Negara soon

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah is undergoing follow-up treatments at the National Heart Institute (IJN) and is expected to return to Istana Negara soon.

Royal household comptroller Ahmad Fadli Shamsuddin, in a statement, said the king initially underwent treatment for food poisoning at IJN and later also received medical intervention following the discovery of a sporting injury.

"Sultan Abdullah's treatment for food poisoning began on Sept 21 when he was admitted to IJN.

"Medical intervention started after MRI imaging on Sept 22 showed Sultan Abdullah suffered an injury while playing sports.

"As is known, his royal highness is active in a number of sports including horse polo, football, squash, hockey and golf," Ahmad Fadli said in a statement.

He said the medical intervention on Sultan Abdullah's joints in his knees and ankles was successfully completed on Sept 24.

"His royal highness is now in a stable condition and there is nothing worrying.

"Following the medical intervention, his royal highness was advised to undergo follow-up treatments and close observation by IJN's medical specialist team.

"Sultan Abdullah is scheduled to return to Istana Negara soon after completing the follow-up treatment," he said.

Ahmad Fadli said the king is touched by the people's concern and prayers for him.

He added that the ruler also expressed concern at the spike of Covid-19 cases and advised the people to take precaution against Covid-19.

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim had on Sept 23 claimed he had secured a majority in the Dewan Rakyat to form a new government to replace Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.

Anwar had sought an audience with the Agong to prove he had the numbers.

However, the ruler could not meet him last week as he was still in the hospital.

The palace's statement today did not mention Anwar's request for an audience. - Mkini
