BN and PN don’t have common CM candidate, unlike Warisan Plus - Shafie

Malaysiakini

Warisan President Shafie Apdal said Warisan Plus has agreed on one Sabah chief ministerial candidate, unlike their rivals who are still divided on the state's top post.
"Be it DAP, PKR, or Amanah (which contest in the election), there's only one candidate for the chief minister post, and that is Warisan president," he told the media after the nomination process in Semporna.
He said that to comment on the situation concerning the state opposition coalition comprising PN, BN, and PBS which have yet to finalise their candidate for the post.
This followed Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin's statement on Sabah Bersatu chief Hajiji Mohd Noor as a possible candidate if the coalition wins.
The prime minister, however, said this would require agreement from Bersatu's allies.
"Who knows, if our partners in PN and also BN agree, the best we can offer as the candidate to helm the state is none other than Hajiji," he had said.
On BN's side, Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin is the potential chief ministerial candidate. Bung is contesting the newly created Lamag state seat.
Bung and Hajiji's chances to become chief minister will depend on who can win more seats in the Sabah election.
Umno is contesting 31 seats while Bersatu is contesting 19 seats.
In a similar matter, Warisan deputy president Darell Leiking reiterated Warisan Plus' commitment in choosing Shafie as the sole chief minister candidate.
"They’re still arguing over it I guess, but for us, we have no arguments. The DAP, PKR and also Amanah as well as Upko have pledged that there is only one person who will lead us and that is Shafie," he said.
Asked to comment on Hajiji as chief minister if the opposition wins, Leiking said: "I have no comment, he is my friend. All of us are Sabahans. To each his own, we wish him good luck but the better luck to Warisan Plus."
Musa not contesting? Not surprised, says Shafie
Meanwhile, when asked to comment on Musa's absence from the state snap polls, Shafie said he was not really surprised.
"Well, I'm not really surprised. Anything can happen. I realised that I have not seen him since they lost the (general) election.
"And I think he has not been in his own area. I don't know what his intention was.
"I believe there was some kind of dispute over the allocation of seats among them. Whatever it is, whether he is in or out, to us, we have to win this election," Shafie said.
Musa did not turn up at the Dewan Serbaguna Libaran where the nomination process was held for the state seats of Gum-Gum, Sungai Manila, and Sungai Sibuga.
He was the incumbent assemblyperson for Sungai Sibuga and had expressed interest in Sungai Manila, a new state seat carved out of Sungai Sibuga.
The nomination process concluded this morning and polling will take place on Sept 26. - Mkini
