Former finance minister Lim Guan Eng will be slapped with two more corruption-related charges this Friday, Sept 11.
Deputy public prosecutor Wan Shahruddin Wan Ladin revealed this after a mention of a separate corruption case against Lim at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today.
Lim is expected to face the two new charges under Section 403 of the Penal Code at the Butterworth Sessions Court in Penang, according to Bernama.
Section 403 of the Penal Code concerns the dishonest misappropriation of property which carries a punishment of between six months and five years in prison, a fine, and whipping.
Lim, who was served the notice after attending the separate case mention at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court, decried the new charges.
"This is truly a politically motivated action by the MACC for having it a day before the nomination day in Sabah," he was quoted as saying by the Malay Mail.
Lim said the charges against him on the eve of the Sabah election's nomination day would affect his campaigning schedule.
However, Lim said he will still participate in campaigning which will go on for two weeks until Sept 25 followed by polling day on Sept 26.
The possibility of new charges against Lim was reported since last week.
Lim accused the MACC of leaking the information before serving him the notice, calling it unprofessional.
Friday will be the fourth time Lim will be charged since last month.
Lim was last charged on Aug 7 at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court with allegedly soliciting 10 percent of profits from a RM6.3 billion road infrastructure project in Penang.
On Aug 10, Lim was slapped with another charge at the Penang Sessions Court over an alleged bribe of RM3.3 million to purportedly assist Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd to carry out the RM6.3 billion project.
On Aug 11, Lim was charged under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009 for allegedly using his position at the time for the gratification of RM372,009 for his wife, through private company Excel Property Management and Consultancy Sdn Bhd.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Lim served as the Penang chief minister from 2013 to 2018 and as finance minister from 2018 until February this year. - Mkini
