Najib benefited from 1MDB-linked transactions: Ex-1MDB CEO

Malaysiakini

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak was among those who benefited from an alleged conspiracy involving transfers of billions of ringgit linked to 1MDB, the Kuala Lumpur High Court heard today.
1MDB’s former CEO Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi testified that Najib, alongside wanted businessperson Low Taek Jho or Jho Low and several others had benefited from the monetary transfers that formed the crux of the 25 charges against the former premier.
Najib is on trial over four counts of abuse of power and 21 counts of money laundering involving RM2.28 billion of funds from sovereign wealth fund 1MDB.
Ninth prosecution witness Shahrol was testifying during re-examination by lead DPP Gopal Sri Ram during today’s trial.
Sri Ram had asked Shahrol who benefited from the alleged conspiracy in hindsight.
Over the course of cross-examination by Najib’s defence team, Shahrol was also grilled on whether the witness had benefited and was part of the alleged conspiracy.
Sri Ram: On hindsight, who benefited from these transactions?
Shahrol: On hindsight, based on documents (produced) in court and during the investigation, the beneficiaries are Jho Low, Casey (Teng), Jasmine (Loo), Tarek Obaid, Khadem (Al-Qubaisi), Patrick (Mahoney), (Mohamed Badawy) Al-Husseiny, as well as Najib,” Shahrol told the court.
Aside from Jho Low and Najib, the other individuals named are also allegedly linked to the 1MDB affair.
When Sri Ram asked Shahrol whether he had benefited from the alleged transactions, the witness replied he did not receive a penny from the whole affair.
