NGO urges Pahang govt to take action against illegal durian farmers

Malaysiakini

Islam Defenders Associations (Pembela) urged Pahang state government to take action against the Raub farmers who occupied the state lands illegally.
Pembela vice-president Masridzi Sat said Malay lands will be occupied by “other people” if no action taken against them.
He claimed that encroachment of state lands is common in Cameron Highlands, Kuala Lipis, Bentong and other states.
The Muslim-Malay NGO announced that they will go to the Raub police station to file a report today at 12pm and have a protest with other NGOs at 5pm.
“What we fear the most is our next generation will not know where to live because their lives are surrounded by lands that belong to other people.
“We are afraid this place where our ancestors were born will become like Palestine, where the Jews entered for a temporary residency but in the end, the Jews control, mutilate, oppress, seize Palestine’s lands, and kill Muslim Palestinians.
“We don’t want this to happen,” Masridzi said in a press conference yesterday which was held in Pertubuhan Muafakat’s office in Kuala Lumpur.
He also criticised DAP's Tras assemblyperson Chow Yu Hui (photo) for challenging the mandatory directive to include Jawi script on signboards in Pahang but turned to look for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Pahang sultan’s assistance when the farmers face land issues.
He said Chow is being a hypocrite and having “double standards”, as such acts touched the “sensitivity of Malay-Muslim”.
“The Malays are angry with Tras assemblyperson who fights against Jawi but when people want to claim the lands, he holds the sultan’s photo and looks for help.
“Can you see his hypocrisy? Why does he do that?
“Don’t disturb sultan’s and Malay’s rights. You offend people and at the same time defend people who encroached lands. What is your struggle?”
Show laws that allow encroachment
Meanwhile, Pembela president Aminuddin Yahaya quoted the farmers’ statement and said the encroachment has happened for more than 40 years and involved 4,400ha of land.
However, the authorities did not take any actions throughout the years.
Aminuddin criticised the DAP and MCA for choosing to support the unlawful acts of the farmers.
Aminuddin Yahaya
“Can these parties show under which section or which act that allows encroachment?”
He urged the Pahang state government to claim all the losses throughout the years from the farmers and the police should take action immediately.
Izzat Johari, another vice-president of Pembela, stated that the state government should arrest the farmers immediately instead of negotiating with them.
It’s been widely reported that a group of durian farmers is fighting eviction orders despite not having legal rights to the land.
The state government has decided to lease 2,168ha of land to a joint venture between state statutory body Perbadanan Kemajuan Pertanian Negeri Pahang (PKPP) and the royalty-linked private firm Royal Pahang Durian Resources (RPDR).
RPDR-PKPP had offered to sublease the land to the farmers, who in turn claimed that the terms were exploitative
Some farmers are also claiming that they have rights to the land under the Security Relocation Scheme (RPSK) implemented by the state government in the 1970s.  - Mkini
