SABAH POLLS | PAS is almost likely to use the BN logo during the upcoming Sabah elections, according to sources.
If all goes to plan, then the Sabah elections will be the first time PAS will be using the BN logo on ballot slips since the 1974 general election.
A BN official told Malaysiakini that PAS had made the first move, and this was welcomed by BN leaders in the spirit of the Muafakat Nasional pact.
"It will be a historic moment. The BN leadership has been informed and has no objections," said the BN official who declined to be named because the matter was still under discussion.
Last week, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang (below) had stated that the party had no problems adopting the BN logo for the Sabah polls.
"It won't be the first time because we have done so in 1974. At the time, we were part of BN," he said.
PAS information chief Kamaruzaman Mohamad, when contacted, said the matter has yet to be finalised, but confirmed that all related entities are in discussion.
BN is a coalition between Umno, MCA, MIC and PBRS. Umno is also part of Muafakat with PAS.
Although BN and Muafakat are in alliance with the Perikatan Nasional coalition, this alliance is expected to use their respective logos during the Sabah election.
Meanwhile, a BN official told Malaysiakini that the coalition will name its candidates this Saturday.
"If there are no further obstacles, we will announce our candidates. Our list is almost complete," he said. - Mkini
