COVID-19 | Police are expecting to wrap up its probe into the case of Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali, who did not quarantine himself after returning from Turkey in July.
According to Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department deputy director Mior Faridalathrash Wahid, investigators will be submitting their findings to the Attorney-General's Chambers soon.
"It is still under investigation. We will refer the IP (investigation paper) to the AGC soon," he said in a text message today.
Malaysiakini had contacted the senior police officer, who is in charge of investigations and legal affairs, for an update into the case.
Khairuddin, who is PAS MP for the Kuala Nerus constituency in Terengganu, came into the spotlight after a DAP parliamentarian raised concerns about his trip to Turkey from July 2 to July 7.
Seputeh MP Teresa Kok had told the Dewan Rakyat that Khairuddin was supposed to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine but had attended the parliament session on July 13, among other activities.
The revelation had caused an uproar among the public who called for action to be taken against the minister.
Following this, the Health Ministry had on Aug 19 stated that they are investigating the claim that Khairuddin had breached his quarantine order.
However, three days later on Aug 22, the ministry issued a statement saying that Khairuddin had been issued a RM1,000 compound on Aug 7.
This did not sit well with some, who questioned whether the compound was backdated. Among them were Kok and criminal lawyer Haniff Khatri Abdullah.
Police had since launched an investigation and summoned Khairuddin for questioning. - Mkini
