The newly appointed Johor Bahru Utara district police chief ACP Rupeah Abd Wahid is the first woman police officer in Johor to be appointed to the post.
Rupeah, 57, who hails from Batu Pahat, Johor was earlier an escort to the Permaisuri of Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah.
Johor police chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay believed Rupeah was capable of carrying out her duties given her experience.
“Many directors of intelligence agencies are women and the advantage of these women is that they are diligent,” he said after witnessing the handing over of duties ceremony at the Johor Bahru Utara district police headquarters today.
Meanwhile, Rupeah said her focus after assuming the post is to ensure the safety of the people around Johor Bahru.
“At the same time, I will obey and be loyal to the Johor police chief and follow every instruction given,” said Rupeah who has been serving with the force for 39 years.
