KOTA KINABALU: The Election Commission (EC) recorded a turnout of 76 per cent in early voting for the 16th state election, today.
Voting ended at 5pm at 53 polling centres state-wide, with the process said to be smooth.
All ballot boxes will be stored in police lockups; and vote-counting will be carried out on Sept 26.
Early polling today involved 16,877 registered voters comprising 7,487 military personnel and 9,390 policemen.
EC chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh visited the Sepanggar navy base, the army Lok Kawi Camp, and the Kapayan police headquarters Officers Mess to monitor the process today.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador also turned up at the Officers Mess.
Earlier, Abdul Hamid said about 270 personnel were unable to cast their ballots as they are undergoing Covid-19 quarantine.
