When they aren't carrying out the business of running Malaysia's most developed state, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari and his fellow state assembly representatives seem to have been busy practicing their vocal chords.
This bore fruit when, in conjunction with the 57th Malaysia Day celebrations, Amirudin and gang put out a cover of the classic pop song 'Standing in the eyes of the world'.
In the video, uploaded by Kota Anggerik assemblyperson Mohd Najwan Halimi today, were appearances of popular singers such as former VE member Lah Ahmad and Malaysian rock queen Ella.
Not only that, but the new version is also full of rap interludes by elected representatives.
Among those featured in the six-minute music video are Juwairiya Zulkifli (Bukit Melawati), Rajiv Rishyakaran (Bukit Gasing), Michelle Ng (Subang Jaya), Lim Yi Wei (Kampung Tunku), Edry Faizal (Dusun Tua), Jamaliah Jamaluddin (Bandar Utama), and Chua Wei Kiat (Rawang).
The song was originally sung by Ella herself 22 years ago in conjunction with Malaysia's hosting of the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
It was composed by Wah Idris, with lyrics by Habsah Hassan, and US singer-songwriter David Gates of Bread fame chipping in.
Gates himself has recorded the song in English while just a couple of months ago, the US embassy in KL celebrated their country's independence day with another recording featuring Ella and several Malaysian and US singers and musicians. - Mkini
