Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has said he welcomed his former mentor Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s criticism about his new multiracial youth party with an open heart.
“Thank you, Tun. We accept criticism with an open heart.
“This is a party led by youths for all Malaysians. The majority who will lead will be technocrats, professionals, entrepreneurs, modern farmers, civil society leaders and others.
“We may be young but we love Malaysia,” Syed Saddiq said in a posting on Twitter today.
He was responding to Mahathir who had said earlier today that he does not believe the multiracial youth party headed by Syed Saddiq will be successful.
Mahathir had said he did not know why Syed Saddiq wanted to form a youth party and did not find it a viable model.
“If you take away the youth (voters), that is a substantial number, but I don’t think it will be very successful.
“In any constituency, there will be young and old voters. If he appeals only to young people, it is difficult for him to succeed,” the former prime minister had said.
However, Mahathir had also said that he still had a good relationship with the former youth and sports minister.
He also said that his new party Pejuang would work with Syed Saddiq’s new party if they also fought corruption.
Dubbed “Muda Malaysia” for now, Syed Saddiq is building a youth-led multiracial policy-driven political platform aimed at disrupting the political status quo.
This included dismantling money politics, usurping existing hierarchies, pushing youth concerns to the fore, and raising a generation of young political leaders. - Mkini
