Selangor BN info chief: Annuar removed for leaning too far to Bersatu

Kelantan Umno stalwart Annuar Musa was removed as the BN secretary-general because he sided with Bersatu, a stance which Umno grassroots loathe, according to Selangor BN information chief Isham Jalil (above).

"More than two-thirds of the Umno grassroots have met at their respective divisions and decided to reject cooperation with Bersatu.

"The grassroots don't want leaders or a secretary-general that will 'sell away' Umno to Bersatu.

"As a principle, the Umno president, who is also the BN chairperson, cannot have a secretary-general whose interests and statements run afoul of the wishes of the grassroots.

"That is why he (Annuar) was replaced," Isham (above) wrote on his Facebook page yesterday evening.

In a tell-all press conference yesterday, Annuar attacked Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's credibility. Among others, Annuar accused Zahid of consorting with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and DAP.

This, said Annuar, went against the wishes of the party leadership and its MPs. Annuar also accused Zahid of attempting to destabilise the Perikatan Nasional Plus government and pushing for a fresh general election amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Isham said Annuar should have revealed proof that Zahid was consorting with Umno's enemies much earlier. According to Annuar, Zahid had written a letter, dated Oct 11, which stated his support for Anwar to form a new government.

"If Annuar knew the letter existed, then why didn't he raise his objections earlier?" asked Isham.

Two days ago, a meeting of Umno division chiefs with Zahid to refine the list of motions for the party's annual delegates assembly on Jan 31 saw a majority rejecting cooperation with Bersatu, among other issues.

The party's supreme council has adopted these suggestions and said that the annual delegates assembly would have to decide on three key matters:

1. Whether to strengthen relations with PAS;

2. Whether to cut ties with Bersatu when the 15th general election comes around; or

3. Whether to lobby for the general election to be held by the end of the first quarter of 2021, depending on the country’s Covid-19 situation. - Mkini
